Green Dryers Charlotte, NC Clean Dryer Vents Reduce Damage to Environment Dryer Vent Cleaning Charlotte

Of course the greenest of clothes dryers is the clothesline; however, this is not considered an option for most people today. So the thing to do is be conservative with the clothes dryer to reduce harmful impact to our environment while reducing energy cost.

Clean Clogged Dryer Vents

When you clean the lint filter after each load, notice how much lint is on it; realize that this is only about 60% of the lint that was removed from laundry; the other 40% escaped into the back of the dryer and the dryer ducts.

Clogged dryer vents reduce air flow, causing your dryer to work harder and run longer to dry a load of laundry. This is a waste of energy. Clogged dryer vents cause your dryer to cost an additional $300 per year to operate.

Failure to clean dryer vents is the number one cause of dryer fires; over 15,000 occur each year. Take steps to reduce lint build up and have professional dryer vent cleaning performed annually to keep your dryer operating safely and efficiently.

Don’t Over-load the Dryer

Over-loading the dryer causes wear on the appliance due to the weight being more than the dryer was designed to handle. It reduces the efficiency of the dryer because air needs to circulate between the clothes for them to dry.

Dry heavier items separate from light weight clothes and do back to back, full loads of laundry. Don’t allow the dryer to cool down between loads; take advantage of the pre-heated dryer to start the next load.

When the time comes to purchase a new dryer, choose one with a cool-down cycle and automatic dry cycle. New dryers have moisture sensors that automatically stop your dryer when clothes are dry. This reduces drying time, saves energy and prolongs the life of your clothing as it prevents over-drying.

Proper use of the dryer and maintenance of the dryer vent system will reduce wear on the appliance, prevent premature repairs, save energy and prevent a dryer fire. That’s a huge savings compared to the cost of professional dryer vent cleaning. Dryer manufacturers recommend dryer vents be cleaned annually to keep your dryer operating safely and efficiently.

Dryer Vent Cleaning Charlotte

Charlotte, NC and www.charlottedryerventlady.com are working to educate consumers as they teach dryer fire safety and promote energy saving practices. Dave Lavalle, owner of Dryer Vent Wizard in Charlotte, NC, is all for The Right to Dry movement that supports consumers who live in areas that prohibit the use of a clothesline.

Why would a dryer vent cleaning company support Right to Dry? Dave Lavalle says, “Laundry detergents and fabric softener sheets are made to smell like the fresh outdoors with names like fresh-air, or clean breeze. Some people like to achieve this naturally, without the chemicals and man-made products.”

When asked if he thought the Right to Dry movement was a threat to his business, Dave replied, “We are not worried about losing business due to people line-drying their laundry. Most people will continue to use their clothes dryers too. We wish to promote all green practices, including line-drying some laundry to reduce the carbon emissions released into the atmosphere.”

Unfortunately, millions of people are denied the right to dry their laundry outside because it is considered to look unattractive to some homeowner associations. Neighbors complain about the view making the area appear to be poverty stricken. They have concerns about property values declining.

Dave Lavalle advises consumers that they can get involved with the Right to Dry movement and encourage their state legislators to introduce a Right to Dry bill. Charlotte, NC –Dryer vent cleaning has many benefits. Most important, dryer vent cleaning prevents dryer fires. Dryer vent cleaning also increases the efficiency of the clothes dryer to reduce energy consumption. Dryer vent cleaning extends the life of the clothes dryer. “All this said, the fee for dryer vent cleaning is little compared to the benefits,” said David Lavalle, owner of Dryer Vent Wizard of Charlotte North Carolina.

Dryer Vent Wizard technicians care about people and their safety. In addition to providing dryer vent services, technicians also teach their customers about dryer vent maintenance and fire prevention.

Dave Lavalle receives emails and letters from customers who express their appreciation for the quality service he provides. Here is what one satisfied customer had to say:

I received the survey today from Dryer Vent Wizard and just wanted to thank you again for your excellent service. Our dryer is now working better than it has ever worked. It is drying the majority of our laundry in less than a cycle. Before you installed the dryer vent, we would often need to run the dryer for 2 cycles. Now I have a dryer that performs as it should and peace of mind.
And your service was outstanding. You not only worked us in the next day when I called you but worked from 4pm to midnight to get the job done. This type of service is an oddity today. I wish you great success with this franchise and will recommend you to everyone I know.

Dave Lavalle, Dryer Vent Cleaning Charlotte and clogged dryer vent expert speaks out about dryer vent fire hazard

Charlotte, NC -- Without proper maintenance, the dryer vent is a potential fire hazard for homeowners, though most are unaware the problem even exists. The result is venting systems that clog over time, with each load of laundry creating more of a hazard.

"It's hard for people to think of their clothes dryer as a fire hazard," said Dave Lavalle, owner of the Dryer Vent Wizard of Charlotte - Meclenburg, whose company specializes in maintaining, cleaning, repairing, replacing and altering dryer vents for residential and commercial consumers.

Clothes dryer fires account for 15,600 structure fires, 15 deaths and 400 injuries each year, with an estimated $88 million in property damage, according to the National Fire Data Center. Failure to clean lint out of the dryer vent is the leading cause.

"Most people don't realize that North Carolina State Building Codes changed in 1996 to indicate that all dryer vent systems should be made of a rigid metal piping, because of the fire hazard," said Lavalle. Even dryer manufacturers call for a rigid metal piping and an annual cleaning to prohibit the lint build-up that leads to fires, he says. Servicing Charlotte, Pineville, Mint Hill, Huntersville, Cornelus, Lake Norman, Matthews, every day Lavalle sees the fire hazards with his own eyes. The systems in most homes he services use white plastic flexible hoses or silver foil, flexible hoses that are not up to code.

The lack of awareness concerning this issue is simply because dryer vent systems are often out of sight and out of mind. "Homeowners want the laundry area to be out of sight and near bedrooms and bathrooms," Lavalle said. "While no one wants to drag laundry up and down the stairs, the reality is that longer venting cause dryers to work harder, take longer to dry clothes, and use more energy, creating a fire hazard. We guarantee in writing lake customers laundry will dry in one cycle "

According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), any vent over 25 feet is considered a fire hazard and installation of a booster fan is recommended. This helps dryers function safely and more efficiently and is one of the services DVW provides.
Lavalle believes the solution to the problem is creating consumer awareness of the importance of maintaining dryers and dryer vents.

The most common sign of a venting problem is that clothes taking too long to dry. "If it takes more than one dryer cycle to get the towels dry, you may have a dryer vent problem," he said.

Here are some tips to help consumers prevent dryer fires and reduce energy consumption:

• Be sure that dryer vent systems are up to code with city, state and manufacturer.
• Replace any plastic or foil vent with semi-rigid or solid metal venting.
• Clean screen lint trays before and after drying a load.
• Wash lint screens with soap and water every few months to remove residue left behind by fabric softeners.
• Have dryer vents professionally cleaned and inspected annually.
Warning signs to look for:
• Clothes are taking more than one cycle to dry, especially jeans and towels.
• No lint is visible on the lint screen.
• The dryer repeatedly stops during a cycle.
• Clothes have a moldy smell after the dry cycle.

"Consumers who follow these guidelines," said Lavalle, "create a safe environment in their home, prolong the life of their dryer and will lower their energy bills."

Dryer Vent Cleaning Company Urges Apartment Managers to Maintain Dryer Vent Systems

Dryer vent cleaning may have prevented the recent dryer fire in an apartment complex that left 4 units severely damaged. The fire started in a clothes dryer in the basement. A tenant attempted to use a fire extinguisher to put out the fire but was unsuccessful. The flames spread through the walls and firefighters had to tear out walls in four units to put out the fire.
Dayn Benson is in charge of franchising for Dryer Vent Wizard, the nation’s largest chain of dryer vent cleaning, repair and installation companies. “All our franchisees work to educate customers and promote public awareness of the importance of dryer vent cleaning to prevent fires and keep dryers working efficiently,” said Benson. “Dryer vent cleaning is especially important in attached apartments and condos with more homes and lives at stake.”
According to the U.S. Fire Administration, dryer fires account for over 15,000 fires in the US, annually. “Failure to clean dryer vents” was citied as the leading factor contributing to clothes dryer fires in residential buildings. Dryer Vent Cleaning Charlotte and Save Energy are the Wizard’s New Year’s Resolutions

1-3-10 – Dryer vent cleaning and saving energy are two things to add to your 2010 list of New Year’s resolutions. Dave Lavalle is the franchise owner/operator of Dryer Vent Wizard of Charlotte, NC. Dryer Vent Wizard specializes in dryer fire prevention and “urgent response” dryer and vent maintenance, repair, replacement and alterations. DVW services keep clothes dryers working safely and operating efficiently. Since staring the franchise in 2004, Dave has had many clients who have considered replacing their clothes dryer because they thought it was old and worn out. “They noticed their dryer taking several cycles to properly dry their laundry and they don’t realize that lack of air-flow is the likely cause,” said Dave. “When air flow is restricted the moist heat cannot escape the dryer drum; therefore, it would make sense that the clothes would not dry.” Dave explains this to all his customers as he provides dryer exhaust service, dryer vent cleaning and repairs to optimize the efficiency a dryer vent system. “Poorly vented clothes dryers cost substantially more money to operate,” said Dave. “Dryer vent cleaning increases dryer efficiency and extends the life of the clothes dryer.” Professional dryer vent cleaning is recommended at least once a year to prevent fires, extend the life of your dryer and help save on energy costs. The fee for the service is well worth the savings it promotes in the long-run.
